Moonlight Fables [DS – Cancelled]

Moonlight Fables is a cancelled side-scrolling action-adventure game, exclusively for the DS, that was slated for release in 2005 by Majesco. Designed by Cyber Philharmonic Video Game Design, the game was going to feature touch-screen input, use of the DS’s two screens and “multiplayer network play” (according to official publicity). Whether this refers to online play, or simply close-range wireless play, is not specified. While an action-adventure, the game would also have tasked the player with different puzzles to solve.

The game was gothic-fantasy-themed, and featured 19-year-old werewolf and Officer School For International Strike Forces graduate Trista Silver. Interestingly, the game was planned to have all of its levels merged into one giant area, allowing seamless movement between sections. It was going to include a range of weapons to master, including the mystical Moon Sword, various types of blaster and the player’s own werewolf teeth and claws. Quite an impressive visual arsenal was in the works, which boasted such features as a blend of 2D and 3D art styles, and a dynamic camera that zoomed in and panned around to highlight specific events.

Although Moonlight Fables was one of the first titles announced for the DS by a western publisher, it went through a major developmental overhaul mid-production. After these major changes, Majesco re-evaluated the game, and took it off their release list. It has since been officially cancelled.

Ninja Gaiden [Mega Drive / Genesis – Beta / Cancelled]

This is Ninja Gaiden for the Genesis. It is (in theory) a conversion of the 1988 coin-op, but basically the only thing that it is similar to the original is the HUD, because everything else was completely reworked. It was never released (even if some websites claims the opposite) in any region, and since it is available online and we can play it, it is not hard to understand why. Apart from being still bug-filled, it is one of the worst beat’em up on the console, featuring a really bad graphic engine even for the time (1992), a moveset pratically inexistent and some of the most less creative enemies ever.

Mission Impossible [SNES MD GEN – Cancelled]

Before being released on the Nintendo 64, Mission Impossible was in development for the Super Nintendo and Mega Drive / Genesis, but soon the 16 bit versions were cancelled, to shift resources to the Ultra 64 one. The game was going to be similar to Flashback by  Delphine Software, as a side-scrolling action game with puzzles and gun fights. Currently we dont know which studio was working on Mission Impossible 16 Bit, but it should have been published by Ocean, as the N64 version.

Info on the cancelled Conker sequel

Lord deathsaur has posted an interesting link in our forum, about an article at Mundo Rare with some informations on Conker’s Other Bad Day, the presumed sequel of the original platform/adventure with our lovely squirrel. Mundo Rare has asked to Chris Seavor (the RARE developer that switched Twelve Tales: Conker 64 into Conker’s Bad Fur Day) about Other Bad Day, and he replied that “We actually started on a direct sequel which was going to be called ‘Conker’s Other Bad Day‘ which dealt with Conker’s somewhat unsuccessful tenure as King. […]” but it seems that Microsoft was not interested in the game.. so the project was just stopped.
