Les trois Mousquetaires [SNES – Cancelled?]

Les trois Mousquetaires (The Three Musketeers) is an action game that was in development by Loriciel for the Super Nintendo, but it seems that the project was later cancelled as we cant find any evidence of its release. Celine was able to find some screenshots from some old french magazines: Banzzai #24 and SuperPower #21. Les trois Mousquetaires’ gameplay should have been similar to the Pocky & Rocky / KiKi KaiKai series, with a top-down perspective in which the characters moving through a level while defeating approaching enemies and destroying obstacles that may block the player’s path. It’s currently unknown if the game had a multiplayer coop mode too.

Conan [Jaguar – Cancelled]

Conan is a cancelled beat ’em up similar to Golden Axe that was in development by Arcade Zone for the Atari Jaguar. The french studio was closed down after Sony decided to not publish their latest Super Nintendo game, as the original Playstation arrived in Europe. Without another publisher they had to give up on releasing Nightmare Busters SNES and Arcade Zone had to shut down. Conan Jaguar vanished with their closure and it’s unknown how much of the game was finished before the cancellation.

At 1Up Games can read an interview with former Arcade Zone’s developers, in which they mention this unreleased beat ’em up:

Lyes Belaidouni: We even made an attempt on the Atari Jaguar, the stillborn console for which we developed (without bragging) the most beautiful beat’em up with huge sprites and monumental backgrounds ! But this, alas, no one has seen it…

Celine was able to find some screenshots of the game in magazines CD Consoles #2, #5 and GF #95

Shadow Stalker [SNES – Cancelled]

Shadow Stalker is a cancelled 2D side scrolling action game that was in development in 1993 by Athena for the Super Nintendo / Super Famicom. From the few screens preserved in the gallery below (scanned from Console Plus #24,  EGM #51 and Game Power #25), we can assume that the game was probably going to play similar to Shinobi / Ninja Gaiden, but with lots of huge robots and other mechanical enemies.

Mercenaries [PS2 XBOX – Beta / Unused]

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is an open world action game developed by Pandemic Studios and published in 2005 by LucasArts for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. DCodes7 was able to find 2 unused cut scenes, one placeholder intro and one unused trailer still hidden in the final game. Also, from looking at the data on the disk it’s possible to see some E3 files (maybe a beta level / demo?) and a debug menu (disabled).

In the gallery below you can see some beta screens with:

  • Beta Jacob
  • Removed Blood?
  • A carbine with a scope (the scope isn’t in the final)

Airborne Ranger [SNES – Cancelled]

Airborne Ranger is a cancelled action game / third person shooter that was in development by Microprose for the Super Nintendo. The game was a sequel  / remake of the original Airborne Ranger released in 1987 / 1988 for Amiga and various PCs. As the original version,  we would have play as a sole airborne military to infiltrate enemy territory to complete various objectives. It’s currently unknown if the SNES version was going to use the same level system as the original game, that created maps and objective locations randomly so missions were never the same.

Some screens of the game were found in magazines Banzzai #14 and Super Power #12
