Clay Fighter: Call of Putty [Cancelled – Wii / DS]

Clay Fighter: Call of Putty is a cancelled fighting game in the ClayFighter series, started for the Super NES in 1993. On September 2009 Interplay announced a return of ClayFighter for WiiWare and DSiWare, with a new project named “Clay Fighter: Call of Putty”, a joke with Call of Duty. This game was suppose to be an updated version of ClayFighter: Sculptor’s Cut and was planned to be released in 2011 for Wii and DS but it soon vanished in limbo and in the end it was never released.

Some info were published in Nintendo Power, November 2010 issue:

– Updated version of Clay Fighter 63 1/3 for the N64
– 16 fighters
– Bad Mr. Frosty, Kung Pow, High Five, Bonker, Lady Liberty, and Sumo Santa, Boogerman, Earthworm Jim included and i have heard rummors about hobo cop coming back
– Standard punches and kicks (3 strengths each)
– Powerful meter-based supermoves
– Finishing moves (Claytalities)
– Training mode
– Single-player story mode available
– Exhibition matches and 2-player versus mode as well
– Late 2010/early 2011 release

Cosmic Walker [Wii – Cancelled]

Cosmic Walker is a cancelled adventure / action game that was in development for the Wii. At Nintendo Fall Conference 2008 the manufacturer shared a movie reel full of upcoming Wii games that were in development, like Punch Out Wii, Sin & Punishment 2 and Another Code R. Another game shown for the first time was a curious space simulation developed by Gaia, the studio created by former Atlus employee Kouji Okada, but no info was shared about it.

In the Supplementary Information documents released by Nintendo from January 2010 onward the title disappeared from the list of the upcoming games aimed for the japanese market and in October 2010 a news spread that Gaia official site ceased activity thus we can conclude that the project was likely quietly terminated by the publisher.

Tomb Raider Legend Beta [PS2 / PSP / PS3 / XBOX / XBOX 360 / PC / WII]

Overview: Tomb Raider Legend is the first game developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics worked along side with Toby Gard (the original Tomb Raider designer). They wanted to reboot the game after the failure of Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness. Development of this game started in 2004 just after Eidos transferred the Tomb Raider development rights to Crystal Dynamics.

There are trailers from around the E3 2005 time which show various different levels which were not present or drastically changed for the final release. Around this stage of development it is confirmed that most of the areas were just for proof of concept and used for testing for example, Lara’s Beach House. There were weapons which were cut from the final release: Smoke Grenades, Rocket Launcher, Revolver.

Megaman Battle Network 5 DS [Unused Animations / Emulated Models]

Mega Man Battle Network 5, known as Battle Network Rockman EXE 5 in Japan, is a Strategy RPG developed by Capcom Production Studio 2 for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. MBN5 for the DS features a 3D Megaman on the bottom screen. For most of the game, it sits there idly. However, by manipulating a command in the game, MegaRockReborn found all animations for all models. This reveals several unused animations which suggest perhaps the game were more animate or would have been fully rendered in 3D.

Here are GIFs of the unused animations.

Using the same trick in MBN5, the unused character models found in Megaman Star Force can replace the models i this game to actually show up. Evidently the model format is the same one Megaman Battle Network 5 DS can read. Animations are different but the first frame can still be seen and here are the character models in their natural state. The emulator isn’t perfect but the models are lacking completeness in contrast to the actual models used in the game.

Cluster Buster [SNES- Cancelled]

Written by Jonathan Smith (known programmer for his Spectrum works) when he was first hired at Rage Software, the game was a shoot ’em up scheduled for Super Nintendo around 1993.  Sadly Cluster Buster never found a publisher. Here is what  Joffa Smith recalled about the project in an interview with World of Spectrum:

With new offices in Bootle, I started work on an original game called Cluster Buster on the SNES. This was an eight-way scrolling defender style shoot’em up, with huge exploding planets and moons. Unfortunately no-one was interested in publishing it (Sonic the Hedgehog was all the rage) so it was abandoned.
