Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D [Beta – 3DS]

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is an action game developed by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS. Before the final product was released Capcom had a different idea for 2 game modes 1 called “scene attack” and the other called “survival”. Not much is known other than they were scrapped into one mode.  In the beta demo you could play a level known as 4-1 and in the video below you can see at 2:49 an Ax guy walking towards the player, but in the final game the boss was changed to a Garrador, a totally different boss. Also, you can notice that where the players score is in the HUD, there are six 0’s, but in the final it was changed to seven 0’s

Jason [PS2 XBOX – Concept / Cancelled]

Jason was one of many game concepts done at French studio Darkworks in the early 2000s, plannet to be developed for the Playstation 2 and Xbox. There are not many info available on the project, but that it should have been set in a sort of Norse mythology, with viking boats, warriors and demons to fight. However, the title never entered in production as no publisher was found. Instead, work on Time Crisis Adventure was started, a project that seems to have been later evolved into Cold Fear, Darkworks’ survival horror that was released in  2005 for Playstation 2, Xbox and PC. Sadly only few artworks remain to preserve this game, archived in the gallery below.

Spiderman (2000) [Beta – PSX / N64]

As we can read on Wikipedia, Spider-Man is an action game based upon the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is loosely based on the 1990s Spider-Man and Spider-Man Unlimited cartoon series. The game was developed by Neversoft and published by Activision for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 in 2000.  In the videos below we can see some beta differences, as the Web Counter (different textures), some beta levels were bigger than the final, some  monsters looks different and they were in other areas than the final ones.

Time Crisis Adventure [Xbox – Cancelled]

Time Crisis Adventure is a cancelled Xbox game pitch that started at Darkworks in 2003 after Capcom abandoned their other project, Lost Mantis. Time Crisis Adventure was a collaborative work with Namco US. In 2004, for unknown reasons, Namco dropped the title. However, Darkworks found a new publisher (Ubisoft) and it seems that they changed the game to release it as Cold Fear on both PS2 and Xbox in 2005 – with no references to the Time Crisis franchise.

Zulu [PSX – Cancelled]

Zulu is a cancelled action game that was in development in 1997 by Studio E for the Playstation. There are basically no info about this project, apart from a single screenshot found in an old magazine and the trademark document for its name.

Studio E was working on different titles, but only VMX Racing was released. They also worked on Shadowhawk for the SNES and Pariah for the Playstation.

If you know someome that worked at Studio E in 1997 and could have some more info about Zulu, please let us know!
