KotOR 1 & 2 beta restoration mods

The original Knights of the Old Republic had a lot of beta / unused stuff and KotOR 2: The Sith Lords, so many fans decided to work together to create a couple of mods for the PC version of the game to be able to play some of those beta elements that were changed or removed before the final version!

The KotOR 1 Restoration is an attempt to restore almost all the content that was cut from the game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by BioWare Corp. Of course, these restorations will be within reason and things that were cut because they did not fit with the plot, and cannot be made to fit with the plot, will most definitely NOT be restored. Remember, this is only the demo, not the full mod.

Most of the content that has been released in this demo is from Taris. However, there are few pieces of restored content that pertain to Dantooine as well as a difficulty option restoration.

- Impossible Difficulty, a cut option for difficulty that is harder than the Vanilla “Hard” difficulty
- Carth dialogue when the PC first awakens on Taris, Carth makes a few comments about the PC’s injuries. (Thanks to zbyl2 for this!)
- Lower City, numerous restorations to the Lower City
- Under City, numerous restorations to the Under City
- Restoration of the Black Vulkar Base Sublevel
- Restored Droid Items
- Restoration of some dialgoue with Niklos in the Uppper City Cantina
- Restoration of the Duel Ring announcer in the Taris Upper City Cantina. The announcer will be available to speak to in between fights.
- Zaerdra Swoop Platform Dialogue, Zaerdra will make some final comments to the PC on the prototype accelerator before intitiating your first run with it
- Sith Base, numerous restorations
- Sarna and Yun Genda are available to talk to members of the same sex and can be used to further the plot of Taris. Albeit, in different ways than they normally do.
- Iriaz Restoration, returns the Iriaz to the plains of Dantooine. (Thanks to Seamhiann for this!)
- Garrum and Tar’eelok Restoration, returns a cut padawan and master to the Jedi Enclave. (Thanks to Seamhiann for this!)
- Restoration of cut items within the Jedi Enclave
- Shen and Rahashia Indecent Proposal, the PC can make a rather indecent, and awkward, proposal to either Shen or Rahasia depending upon the PC’s gender.
- The file called plc_glowpudl.utp had the name of “Glowing Puddle” however when placed in game it looked like a blood puddle. The model file and textures have been changed so now the glowing puddle placeable makes a glowing puddle of green liquid. It can be seen in the new module, tar_m03ac, or the swoop platform non-racing version.
- Modified Iriaz from Seamhiann’s modules so there were less of them, they fought against the Kath Hounds, and usually stayed in their small areas.

The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM). This mod’s intention is to restore much of the cut content to The Sith Lords, that was lost to the main game due to a rush to release the game. This rush also left the game with a plethora of bugs (some of which also blocked out content, so not everything restored was really “cut”, for example the quest ‘Corrun Falt’), this mod should seriously decrease the buginess that plagued TSL.

ZM90 is back with a update for his latest project, the KotOR 1 Restoration! If you don’t know the KotOR 1 Restoration is a project that aims to bring most of KotOR’s beta content back into the game. Here are a couple of new (well new to U64) teasers.

There you have it folks. From ZM90′s estimation the project is 50% complete and no release date has been given.

[Project] The Axel Project: Half Life 2 beta restoration

Founded in 2009, The Axel Project aims to recreate the original Half Life 2 beta leak story line as envisioned by VALVe circa 2003. Their upcoming binary patch features numerous fixes to engine stability as well as the addition of retail engine features (such as background maps, bloom). Some key highlights:

The cancelled Titan A.E. game is almost restored

Based on the animated film with the same name, Titan AE for the playstation and PC was in development in 1999 by Blitz Games, but it was never released. Only a 1-level demo was somehow leaked online, but thanks to John Doom we can now play some more beta levels that were still hidden in there!

Q:What is “A.E.FULLGAME_v1.ppf” ?

A:It’s a specific patch file for the psx demo disc “Titan A.E. Demo [SLUS-90082]“

Q:So how can I patch the demo?

A:You need the program “PPF-O-MATIC” and a BIN image of “Titan A.E. Demo [SLUS-90082]“. You guessed it! (I hope…): select the demo image in “ISO File” and “A.E.FULLGAME_v1.ppf” in “Patch”. Ok, now press on Apply and… GG! the demo is patched and now you can play 5 levels!

As we read in the Advent Rising beta article, there were a lot of stuff planned for the game that never made it into the final, especially in the PC version. Advent Revising is a fan-made patch  that aims to restore the cinematics of Advent Rising to their intended quality. This English patch adds back thirteen movie files cut from the PC version of the game, corrects cases of desync and playback errors present in cutscenes, corrects and retimes all of the game’s subtitles, enables full 4:3 display with Vsync and trilinear filtering, and adds additional functionality to the player such as teleportation and level skip.

ZM90‘s new big “beta remake” project is a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 Restoration (K1R). KotOR is a Star Wars RPG developed by BioWare and published in 2003 for the Xbox and PC, but some stuff were removed from the game before the final version. What this project basically does is to add most of the beta content back to the game. Things that he plans on restoring include the cut swoop races, the Tatoinee Temple, the E3 demo area (to use it as an optional tutorial area), as well as any other beta content that still fits with the story. Zelda: Ocarina of Time URA Project – The Expansion Mod

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time URA Expansion is based from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Nintendo promised a great tale of adventure, new dungeons, new side quest and much more but it was never delivered due to the failure of the 64DD. A group of hackers lead by ZethN64 have joined together, creating their own version of URA (known around the community as The URA Project) with their ideas and input from the community on the direction to take this project. Their goal? To make it one of the best expansions to follow in the footsteps of Ocarina of Time. One of the main changes is that our Hero and his fairy partner Navi has been replaced by the Hero of Light and a new fairy called Raze who will feature a chime instead of Navi’s voice and colours.

They plan to make the environment in URA to feel more alive and real, breathing more of an atmosphere to the game. NPC’s moving around instead of standing still, new changes in storyline, a restoration of the “blade beam attack” and other cool prerelease/beta elements while creating new ones.

The team members include: ZethN64 (team leader), Sakura, SanguinettiMods, Naxylldritt, Arcaith, Dominic Ninmark(the composer), spinout, Shadowfire (the main beta tester) Branden, Satoshi and the guys from Hard4Games as the secondary testers. Other non official team members, are helping them with hacking and advancing in knowledge in the N64. BIG SPECIAL thanks goes to Twili, Fkualol, flotonic, JSA, Xdaniel, Deathbasket and cooliscool for the tools they have written and anyone else who contributed to this project.

Here is a list of some of the features being implemented in the game.
* A brand new plot with new dialogue to envelop the player
* A new protagonist
* A new fairy partner named Raze, with a new personality
* Completely new dungeons
* A new overworld
* New NPCs, enemies and bosses
* New minigames and revamped old ones
* Changes to the OoT game engine where appropriate, to add new functionality
* Restored beta content
* New attacks
* New items
* New MP3 quality music
* Ura only save files and enhanced file select screen
* New side quests
* Time of day system, with time sensitive events
* Restored beta animations / new animations
* New Warp Songs to learn
* A+B Reversed interface/controls

[Project] Monster Party Beta Restoration

Cubivore10 is working on a new Beta Restoration Project. This project is dedicated to restoring lost content and graphics to the cult-favorite NES game Monster Party. The first priority of this project is to remake graphics as they appear in beta shots of the game.

As of now, the only thing near completion is the first boss’ graphics, and the cursor at the start of the game. There are few beta-shots that show off what it originally looked like, however, some assumptions can be made about how things may have been changed or localized.

In addition to restoring beta graphics, on of the main goals of this project is to make the game more horror like, which is how fans assume it would have been which means more horror parodies, and more blood. That’s where you, the reader comes in!

If you have any interest and/or knowledge of editing games, then please, the Monster Party Beta Restoration Project needs you! “We” need somebody who can use graphic editors (currently using yy-chr) to edit graphics and pallets.

A new Zelda 64 Beta Restoration Project

After the original Zelda 64 Beta Restoration Project vanished into different internal issues in Team Beta Triforce, another team called “Forbidden Legends” is going to try to develop a mod / hack for Ocarina Of Time, in which to play some of the beta content that we all saw in the early screenshots and videos.

Here’s their description of this new OoT Beta Restoration:

We started when people started getting tired of being in the old TBT. They wanted to start a team of their own. A continuation of the old Beta Restoration Project really, but done differently. We allow anyone to work on it. It’s also not strictly beta; we will throw in many things not beta-related, beta is just a theme mostly. We do all of our work in #z64sanctuary on, no forums.

About the game, it starts out in Link’s Uncle’s house. His uncle has to leave to the castle. Soon Link leaves the house and is now in Castle Town. After going to the castle, the rest of the journey sets out, which isn’t public yet.

A new NSMB DS Beta Remake in the works

Hiccup and mariofanatic64 have been working on a Beta Replica / Remake of New Super Mario Bros DS.

Features to be implemented:

  • The beta desert levels from e3 (see videos below)
  • Other beta levels based around screenshots and trailers (underground, undewater, tech demo levels, mushroom)
  • Beta Castle and Desert Graphics
  • Beta sfx and music

Already done:

  • 1-1, 1-2, 1-5 and 1-Castle are done, but 1-3 is currently incompleteable.
  • 1-1 is the E3 05 level.
  • 1-2 is the underground level. (unfinished)
  • 1-3 will become the mushroom level.
  • 1-5 is the rope level.
  • 1-Castle is the E3 05 castle.
  • Beta ? block graphics – not animated yet.
  • you will have to take the secret exit out of 1-2 to advance
