Resident Evil Revelations [Beta – 3DS]

Resident Evil: Revelations is a survival horror developed by Capcom and published for the Nintendo 3DS in January / February 2012.  It seems that the beta version of Resident Evil Revelations featured an almost completely different story line where Chris and Jill were on an unnamed ship. For some reason the two protagonists turn against each other. The original trailer shows a Chris look-alike tied down to a chair. Jill asks Chris if he has some sort of object and Chris replies “You’ll have to kill me to find out.” The characters and story in Resident Evil Revelations seem to have been heavily changed during its production.

Fun note: prior to its release, Capcom sent North American copies of Resident Evil: Revelations to reviewers, with the game’s title misspelled as “Revelaitons”.

In the second video, there’s another beta cutscene that didn’t make the final game. [Spoiler] When you first meet Rachel as Jill you just see her getting killed through the glass window in game there is no cutscene. In the Resident Evil Revelations pilot version demo in merc 3d, Rachel is not used and there is a different person that sounds like Raymond.

Megaman Battle Network 5 DS [Unused Animations / Emulated Models]

Mega Man Battle Network 5, known as Battle Network Rockman EXE 5 in Japan, is a Strategy RPG developed by Capcom Production Studio 2 for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. MBN5 for the DS features a 3D Megaman on the bottom screen. For most of the game, it sits there idly. However, by manipulating a command in the game, MegaRockReborn found all animations for all models. This reveals several unused animations which suggest perhaps the game were more animate or would have been fully rendered in 3D.

Using the same trick in MBN5, the unused character models found in Megaman Star Force can replace the models i this game to actually show up. Evidently the model format is the same one Megaman Battle Network 5 DS can read. Animations are different but the first frame can still be seen and here are the character models in their natural state. The emulator isn’t perfect but the models are lacking completeness in contrast to the actual models used in the game.

Mega Man Legends 3 [Cancelled – 3DS]

Mega Man Legends 3 (aka Rockman DASH 3 in Japan) is a cancelled action game that was in development by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS. The game was announced in July 2010 and it was going to be created with the help of the fans, thanks to the MML3 Developer Room website:

Yes, the Developer Room, or as it’s more popularly known, the “Devroom” is a place where people interested in the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 title for 3DS can convene to exchange ideas on the game’s development. We hold monthly Devroom events where members can submit their ideas for content, some of which will be selected by the game’s development team to actually be implemented in the game.

A playable Mega Man Legends 3 prototype was going to be released with the launch of the 3DS eShop download service, to let players to test the game and give even more feedbacks about how to develope it. Sadly, something went wrong and on the 18th july 2011, Mega Man Legends 3 was officially cancelled:

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.

The prototype was never released on the 3DS eShop, but we hope that in the future it could be at least leaked somehow.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles [Wii – Beta]

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is a rail shooter developed and published by Capcom in fall of 2009.

In one of the gameplay trailers, Claire uses Leon’s Handgun in the chapter Game of Oblivion (Code Veronica).

E3 2009 Stage Demo:

At E3 2009, gamespot.com posted a video of a stage demo that was playable at the event. The stage demo presented at E3 shows different character and chapter selection screens.

Final note: the E3 demo’s pause menu had an option called “Equipment Screen”. It was changed to “status” in the final product.

 

In an interview – posted on videogamer.com – MK was asked about Darkside Chronicles (scrapped) online co-op:

VideoGamer.com: Will you be able to play co-op online?

MK: No, unfortunately not.

MK: Time lag. Especially wi-fi connection is not that stable. The time lag issue is the main reason that’s stopping multiplayer online. Having said that we have introduced a wi-fi ranking system, so you can compete your score with other people around the world.

In another article, kotaku writes how the first person camera for Darkside chronicles was toned down due to some complaints of how the camera shook around too much.

Developers recently toned down the shake of the camera in documentary-styled shooter Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles to make the upcoming Wii title a bit easier to play, Capcom developers say.

“It was a bit of a trial and error, this shaky cam,” said Masachika Kawata during a meeting at this week’s Gamescom convention in Cologne. “It was probably a little too much, so it’s a little toned down now.”

 

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney [DS – Beta / Unused Sprites]

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a Capcom adventure game following the story of new defense attorney Phoenix Wright, who takes on many murder trials and proves his clients to be not guilty.

Found on the official Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney site, Capcom posted beta screenshots before the game was released. Two of those screenshots contain content not seen in the game. One of those was the “Cross Examination” screenshot. In the game, Phoenix Wright and the prosecutor will lock eyes, and there will be a close up of them. In the screenshot, the sprites for Phoenix Wright and the prosecutor, in this case Miles Edgeworth, shows. The other screenshot was when the witness is pressed. Instead of the bottom screen still showing the “forward” sprite, the screen shows Phoenix Wright extending his arm at the witness.

Additionally, there are three sets of sprites not seen in the game, but found in the coding, posted by fan site courtrecords.net. One is Phoenix Wright with hearts over his eyes, which presumably is when the defendant “April May” shows. The probable reason this was removed was because the two meet before the trial. The other is a forward facing Miles Edgeworth showing his surprised face, which only is seen from the side in the game. The last is Larry Butz creating a weird face where he sticks out of tongue.
