Congo The Movie – Secret of Zinj [SNES – Unreleased]

The Secret of Zinj is an unreleased tie-in of the movie Congo. The game features many different gameplay styles, running the gamut from shooting enemies in first person à la Operation Wolf to canoeing. The problem is, they are all badly designed and very frustrating, in part because the graphic engine seems unfinished. The game was probably cancelled because of development issues and the fact that the Snes was at the end of his life.

You can find more info on this game on SNES Central!

Drac’s Night Out [NES – Unreleased]

Drac’s Night Out is a unreleased platform/puzzle game for the Nes. I don’t really understand why, but this game was selected as a form of advertising for the Reebok’s shoes Pump, which are used in the game by Dracula to run faster. And you really need it, because in order to suck the blood of the “lovely girl Mina” before the time runs out, you have to avoid the villagers at all costs using various traps. Drac’s Night Out is so hard and badly designed that i think that even the developers stopped playing it after ten seconds.

Castle! Castle! [GameCube / PC – Cancelled]

Castle! Castle! is a prototype for a cancelled game in development for PC and Gamecube at F4 (formerly known as F4-Toys),  a French video game developer based in Paris composed of former staffers from Adeline Team and No Cliche, including Frederick Raynal. It seems that it was going to be a real-time strategy game / tower defense, where the players would have had to build and protect their castles, but sadly the project was cancelled. This could have been an evolution of another F4 proto, know as Pocket Castle.

Thanks to Jay for the english corrections!

TimeSplitters 4 [Wii – Cancelled]

TimeSplitters 4 was not only planned for PS3 and Xbox 360 but also for Wii. The game was planned to be a “down-sized” version with several new gameplay elements due to the unique control interface. While most of FRD staff was working on the large PS3 and Xbox 360 version, only a small team was responsible for converting the assets for Wii.

When Free Radical Design filed bankrupty, the project was shelved.

Faxanadu [NES – Unused Sprites]

Faxanadu is a platform adventure game for the NES, that was developed and released in Japan by Hudson Soft in 1987. In 1989, Nintendo of America released the game as a first-party title in the US and in the European market in 1990. Faxanadu can be considered a side-story of Xanadu, which is the second installment of Falcom’s long-running RPG series, Dragon Slayer. [Infos from Wikipedia]

Thanks to Robert Seddon we found out this page on TheInterweb.com, where we can see some interesting sprites that were never used in the game: “‘The IDs of these enemies are 18, 29, 36, 39, 43, 70 (all decimal). Two defined NPCs also never actually appear in the game. The first one is the lovely blue lady with ID 53, the
other one is the child with ID 54.’
