Pokemon Battle Revolution [Beta – Wii]

Pokemon Battle Revolution was first announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata at a Nintendo marketing event in Japan on June 2006 and it was released in 2007 after Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Below you can see the original trailer that contains a lot of beta stuff: it seems that it still used the same engine from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (GameCube) and there are some unused / early 3d models.

Video:

As you can see in the middle the HUD is the same from Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness and battles are from Pokemon Red and Green.. maybe they even planned a connection with the gameboy advance games. Rumors say that Pokemon Battle Revolution originaly was started in 2006 after Gale of Darkness was finished, but it was later postponed to be a title for the new console.

Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver [DS – Beta / Unused Stuff]

Before Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver were released, there were beta pictures from CoroCoro magazine that showed Silver’s, Chikorita’s, Pikachu’s and Pikachu-colored Pichu’s beta sprites. These were changed later on. There is also a beta back sprite of Ethan. His hair is slightly different and there is a symbol on his hat.

Beta screenshots also exist, one of the Slowpoke Well that instead shows a Team Rocket grunt standing where Proton is in the final version, as was the case in the original games, and another of the Mystri Stage in Sinjoh Ruins that shows the three circles being identical instead of three different colors in the final version.

Also, Cyndaquil’s sprite in the intro is different from its front sprite in the main games.

Pokemon Emerald [GBA – Beta / Unused]

Pokémon Emerald is an updated version of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, that was released in Japan in September 2004 and in America and Europe in 2005. Even if the game is just an “add-on” to Ruby and Sapphire, it’s possible to find some beta and unused content still hidden in its code. As noted by Bulbapedia:

  • There’s an unused map header into the ROM called “SPECIAL AREA”.It was probably used for the battle frontier back then.
  • All the music tracks found in FireRed and LeafGreen are present in Emerald too, but only few of them are used for special events.

Also, from an early Pokèmon Emerald screenshot by IGN you can clearly see that ROUTE 109 had glitched up tiles!)

In the ROM LucaPM found an unused Prof.B irch sprite, that was probably used for the beta intro sequence. HEX Offset : 557AF0 (varies between ROMS)

Unused sprite:

Final sprite:

Things to notice between the unused and the final sprite:

  • Different stance (of course)
  • Less outlined sprite
  • Shorter shirt
  • Different,bigger belt
  • Different designed and coloured pants
  • Different right leg
  • Slightly different haircut

As noted by Zero7, it’s possible that he was suppose to have his hands in his pockets, go into the now final sprite for throwing out the pokemon, then either stay in the final sprite or back to the unused sprite for the rest of the intro.

Pokémon Ruby: more unused content in the game?

pokemonunusedffd

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The offsets that are in this article work only with Pokémon Ruby v 1.0 (USA). If you want to know which version is your game, you can use the Rom Header Editor Advance (RHEA). You can find RHEA at any Pokémon hacking website. The text can be seen with Advance-Text (A-Text) but you have to convert the offsets from HEX to DEC (for doing this you can use Windows Calculator). For the unused rooms, you can use Advance Map (A-Map).

I have found some unused dialogs and rooms in Pokémon Ruby. None of them are used in the final version of the game but they are still  hidden in the game code!

It seems like the game’s early project name was POKéMON AGB (AGB is the official product code for the GBA).

Removed character from Pokemon Gold & Silver?

pokegoldlsods

MajorasWrath97 has made us to notice about an interesting glitch in Pokemon Gold / Silver / Crystal: if you connect the japanese version to an english version, you mysteriously battle Giovanni, a character that you cant usually meet in the “normal” game. It seems that Giovanni was going to be in the final game, but it was taken out for some reasons.

Some more infos on the subject can be found here and here.

One day a friend brought a japanese gold version to my house, and we decided to battle to see if it worked. When the battle started instead of the pictures of our trainers, the image of Giovanni appeared. This mean that Giovanni does appear in the gold/silver version, or it was supposed to appear and he was removed from the games.

I remember along time ago I was battling my friend. Instead of him being his Silver character, he was Giovanni, and he sent out his Rhyhorn and it looked like a Butterfree.

Thanks to MajorasWrath97 for the contribution!

A message from Azim Germany:
