System Shock 2 [Dreamcast – Cancelled]

System Shock 2 its a FPS originally released in 1999 for PC developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios and published by Electronic Arts, in may 2000, a week after Looking Glass Studios closed doors, Vatical Entertainment announced a dreamcast port for a end year release, the port was being made by Marina Games, and they missed the release date, in 2001 Vatical said that the port was still in development, but no release date was given, in the end the game was cancelled, and Marina Games closed without a game made or ported, the possibly reason was SEGA decision to exit the console market.

In april 2010 gamer_s from dreamcast-talk forum found in his devkit, a System Shock 2 and Thief 2 folders, while System Shock 2 could be bootable, Thief 2 was in very early stages and lacked many of necessary dreamcast files, the devkit was from a Eidos employee, in 9th september, to celebrate the 11th anniversary of dreamcast in USA, gamer_s released the files, they can be downloaded in this link http://dreamcast-talk.com/beta/

Sadly the port was at beginnig of development too, loadings are very long (about 5 minutes or more), slow framerate, no HUD and you cannot open doors.

Darkest of Days [PC X360 – Beta]

Darkest of Days is a FPS developed by 8monkey Labs and published by Phantom EFX / Valcon Games in September 2009 for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360. DCodes7 found some beta differences in the promo screen shots for the game:

The character “mother” is only seen in the game as a pair of eyes on screen. In the beta, mothers eyes are green; In the final her eyes are a grey type color. In the same screenshot the panel in front of the character – witch access mission briefings – is black in the beta but a silver-grey in the final.

Metro 2033 [X360 PC – Beta]

Metro 2033 is FPS / survival horror based on the novel with the same name, written by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. The game was developed since 2005 by 4A Games in the Ukraine, but it was released only in March 2010 for Xbox 360 and PC, after more than 5 years. In all this time Metro 2033 changed a lot: the graphic engine shown in the screenshots from 2006 had to be updated with a more powerful one, more details and characters were added to the explorable areas.

Call of Duty: Devil’s Brigade [X360 PS3 – Cancelled]

Call of Duty: Devil’s Brigade is a cancelled FPS that was in development by Underground Development (aka Z-Axis) from 2007 to 2009, for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Activision closed the studio on February 11th, 2010. It’s possible that Call of Duty: Devil’s Brigade was cancelled to shift resources to Guitar Hero: Van Halen, that could have been a more profitable project for them. This game in the Call of Duty series would have been set in Italy during World War 2. This was meant to be CoD4 before it was cancelled.

Killzone (Kin) [PSX PS2 – Beta / Target Render]

Killzone is a FPS developed by Guerrilla Games (known as Lost Boys before) and released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2. It seems that the project was originally planned to be a Playstation 1 shooter titled “Kin”, but after Sony saw their tech demo in 1999, they asked to Guerrilla to switch it to the new console. Below you can see the original Kin / Killzone pitch video, that Lost Boys created 5 years before the final release. This footage was shown at the GDC Europe in August 2010 during a keynote by Hermen Hulst, Managing Director of Guerilla Games. As you can notice, the game and the characters looked a lot different, but we are not sure if the video was still related to the PSX project or it was already changed into a PS2 title.

Thanks to Unclejun for the video (from the Killzone Collector’s Edition) and to Killzone for the link to the GDC Europe article!
