Action Adventure

The City of Metronome [Cancelled – Xbox 360 / PS3]

The City of Metronome is a cancelled adventure game that was in development for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 by Swedish developers Tarsier Studios. As we can read on Wikipedia, it was officially revealed during E3 2005 where it became an anticipated game for the seventh-generation of video game consoles. However, the status of this project is uncertain since Tarsier Studios was unable to find a publisher up to 2007.

On July 13, 2010, Tarsier Studios officially announced that the developer “has signed an exclusive first party deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe”, to work on Little Big Planet PS Vita. We still don’t know if The City of Metronome will ever be revived for the next generation of consoles or if it will be lost forever.

Dead Rising [XBOX 360 – Beta]

Dead Rising is an action adventure / survival horror developed by Capcom and released in 2006 for the Xbox 360. As we can read on Wikipedia, Keiji Inafune, designer of Mega Man and Dead Rising, wanted the main character Frank West to be different from the usual Japanese main character. Instead of having a young and beautiful protagonist, he wanted an everyman that looked average rather than beautiful or ugly. Before chosing Frank’s final design, they created different models (especially for the face) that can be seen in the beta screenshots below.

Also, as noted by DCodes7, in the beta Isabella is holding a sniper rifle, but she never holds that weapon in the final game. Isabella’s brother Carlito is the only one who uses the sniper rifle.

In another old screen we see Frank reuniting an old couple in the middle of a zombie apocalypse after being separated. One think to note is that Frank reunites the old couple on the roof of the mall in the final, not at the entrance of the mall as shown in this image.

The camera HUD is different. In one of the images it shows the battery life of the camera exceeds 30 (thirty), in the final version of Dead Rising the cameras battery life is 30+ (thirty). Meaning that the battery life of the camera cannot exceed thirty, but the image shows that the camera battery life exceeded past 30 (thirty) in the beta. There are other small details of the HUD’s camera that are different from the final.

Project H.A.M.M.E.R. [Wii – Cancelled]

Project H.A.M.M.E.R. was an action-adventure game for Wii, which was being developed by Nintendo Software Technology Corp. The game was first revealed at E3 2006, but later vanished from future showings and faded into obscurity.

In the game, players controlled a cyborg named M09, fighting to save major cities across the United States that were under siege by killer robots. Swinging the Wii Remote would have resembled swinging the protagonist’s hammer.

Conker’s Quest / Twelve Tales [N64 – Cancelled]

conkerquestlogo.jpg

We all remember Conker Bad Fur Day as one of the most original (at least conceptually) games ever released on Nintendo 64. But we also remember how it looked before, when it was called Conker: Twelve Tales or Conker’s Quest: the quintessential cute-looking platform. However, apart from the graphic style, the first version of Conker had some interesting features not found in released version. The overworld was probably bigger and there were more levels, like, as you can seen from the screenshots on this page, a Toy and an Ice stage, more bosses, more moves and gadgets (including vehicles) for Conker. Also, the game was slightly different if played with Berry, the cute friend of Conkey, because she would have had to raise monsters in order to fight the enemies. The most significant feature was however the co-op mode, which allowed two players to cooperate in the adventure mode. Unfortunately, only some places and characters were ported to BFD, although with heavy changes, like the Scarecrow, the Cyclops (that became the giant boss of the prehistoric world), the windmill, many locations and gameplay ideas of the phehistoric world, etc. We can only hope that in the future a proto of this game will be leaked for everyone to enjoy.
