Renegade Zero [PC PS2 – Cancelled]

Renegade Zero is a cancelled action game / third person shooter that was in development in 2001 by Cinematix Studios for the Playstation 2 and PC.  We can read some more info in an old press release:

They hired the six most notorious bounty hunters in the galaxy to find “Renegade Zero”, an outlaw so dangerous that only a few people in the galaxy know of his existence. But with this kind of a job, you’ve got to watch your employers, and your partners, or you’ll be taking one in the back.

Renegade Zero is an action adventure shooter for the PC, Mac Playstation 2 featuring dynamic changing gameplay, fast action, a deep storyline, exploration, and adventure. Renegade Zero introduces a new level of realism and detail to it’s visual design and artwork, and expressive 3D characters with unmatched realism.

Cinematix was working on 3 games in 2001 / 2002, but they had to close down after a while, maybe for the lack of a publisher interested in their projects. Renegade Zero, Hirelings and Tankers: Smoking Barrels were all cancelled and vanished with the closure of the studio.

Covert W.A.R.S. [PSX PC – Cancelled?]

Covert W.A.R.S. seems to be a 3D action game with a strong multiplayer component, that was planned for PC and Playstation. Very little is known about it outside of a video shown around E3 ’97 so we can speculate that the project was later cancelled, but let us know if you have any additional information!

Update:

In EGM special issue “Guide to E3 ’97” it was mentioned Playmates as publisher. From an old news on Gamespot ( ex-Videogames.com ) we can learn that the title was in development by Black Ops and production was halted in early ’98.

Months before the game release, a demo was made available for PC and PS2, that contains the Post Office level.

In final version you can only complete this level when you blow up up the sniper post with a c4 earned in Police Station, then go back to Police Station and save Isabella to be allowed to continue, but she and the kid does not appear in the demo, nor even the freedom fighters from the building and Troy in Post Office.

Seed [PC – Cancelled]

Seed is a cancelled FPS that was in development in 1998 by Human Soft, a team from Hungary. The particularity of this game was the colorful lighting engine, as you can see from the screenshots below, some of which were found by derboo in PowerPlay magazine 7/1998. Seed was proposed to be a new action game that aimed to blend the gameplay of a first person shooter with the action approach of a console title. In the end it seems that Human Soft were not able to find a publisher interested in their project and Seed remained unfinished.

A beta demo was released online and you can download it at File Planet. Thanks a lot to Solaris for the videos!
