In early 2000, Eidos announced to release a game for the Olympic Games 2000 for Game Boy Color. Developer of the title, David A. Productions, even declared that “no detail was spared to produce the most realistic sports game ever on Nintendo’s Game Boy Color”.

Activities included were 100m Sprint, Hurdles, Hammer, Javelin, Triple Jump, High Jump, 100m Freestyle Swimming, Olympic Sprint Cycling, Skeet Shooting, Super Heavyweight Weight Lifting, 10m Platform Diving and Kayak K1 Slalom.

Despite being completed and approved, Sydney 2000 was never released on Game Boy Color.

Wii Sports Resort: the removed games

wiisporresot

From a email interview with Wired Online Magazine, Katsuya Eguchi shares with us some lost info about the recently released / popular Wii Sports resort.

“We considered fishing and a water slide activity before deciding on the final twelve events,” Eguchi said. We’re having a hard time imagining a controllable, skill-based water slide game, which may have been one reason it didn’t end up in Resort. “As for more unconventional concepts, we created a pretty fun prototype of kendama, a traditional Japanese toy, that just didn’t fit the game’s theme.”

More info if it comes, for now we thank Wired for providing this information!

Tidal Riders [PS2 – Unreleased]

Tidal Riders is a cancelled racing / sport game that was in development by Bungarra Software in 2001 / 2003 for the Playstation 2. The player would have been able to ride around the globe in various and different tracks, to race against the AI or to reach new high scores in trick mode. It seems that Bungarra tried to find a publisher for the project but without luck, and even in 2004 they signed a PAL territory Publishing Agreement with XS Games LLC to release the game in Europe.. but something  went wrong and as far as we know, Tidal Riders was never released in the end.

MagBall [PSX – Cancelled]

MagBall is a cancelled Playstation game that was in development by Trimark Interactive in 1995. The gameplay was going to be somewhat similar to a soccer game, but with spaceships that have to knock a ball into a goal. The project was never released for unknow reasons and few year later, Trimark was closed down. Celine was able to find some screens from the game in EGM issue 74, even if the images were probably taken from a FMV or a target render and no real gameplay was shown.

Dodge Ball: World Chaos [PS2 – Cancelled]

Dodge Ball: World Chaos is a arcade sport game with adventure elements (somehow similar to Sega Soccer Slam and Mario Strikers Charged) that was in development by IRD1 in 2001 / 2002, for the Playstation 2.  We would have been able to go around the city to talk with other characters between matches to learn more about the story and upgrade our team. A multiplayer option with 8 players support was planned for coop and VS mode. Sadly it seems that they were not able to find a publisher interested in the project and the game was then cancelled.
