1080° Avalance / White Storm [GC – Beta]

Sometime in 1999, it was confirmed that a sequel to 1080° Snowboarding was coming to the Nintendo 64. Rather than Nintendo handling development of the game, they passed development on to second-party studio Left Field. When the game failed to materialise, it was confirmed that the game was no longer being produced for the N64, but for the Nintendo GameCube. Not long after this announcement, it was also confirmed that Left Field was revoking its status as a second-party studio so it could develop multi-format titles.

Development of the game was handed to Nintendo’s American development studio, Nintendo Software Technology Corporation (NST). They originally planned to call this game 1080°: White Storm, before finally renaming this game 1080°: Avalanche. It is assumed that the game was completely rewritten by NST, but it’s possible that some elements of Left Field’s work remains. – [info from wikipedia]

The early screens and video show at least 2 different beta of the game, in which the character design and the graphic were different from the final version.

Advanced Wars: Under Fire [GC – Battalion Wars Beta]

Battalion Wars was originally entitled Advance Wars: Under Fire, but the name was dropped after E3 2003. This would have put it in the Advance Wars series of video games, as well as the Nintendo Wars series of games. However, all of those games are turn-based, whereas this game is a real-time strategy game. [Infos from Wikipedia]

In the early screens and trailer, the graphic style was still not finalized (it had a more “realistic” feeling), the HUD was different and some of the characters (the general on the right) were removed from the final version.

Meowth’s Party [GC – Tech Demo]

This Tech Demo was shown in August 23, 2000 at the Spaceworld convention as a video, along with a Legend of Zelda game and Metroid game. The game was not as graphically impressive as other titles being shown, but unlike many other titles, Meowth’s Party was interactive. The game showed many Pokemon from the original Pokemon Red and Blue versions as well as a few characters from Pokemon Gold and Silver versions.

Many people believed that the demo was showing off a Pokemon game in development for the Gamecube, but later on the creators and developers may have decided to keep it as a demo instead of a full-fledged game because the idea of the game was not well received. However, one of the songs from a commercial for Meowth’s Party was featured in Pokemon Channel. There may have been several characters from the actual anime involved in the game. – [info from Wikipedia]

Super Paper Mario [GC – Cancelled]

Super Paper Mario is a Platform/role-playing video game developed by Intelligent Systems, a division of Nintendo. It was originally set for release on the Nintendo GameCube but then it was released for the Wii. It is similar to the previous two Paper Mario titles and the Super Mario Bros. for the Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game will combine side-scrolling 2D gameplay with free roaming 3D graphics and to a somewhat lesser extent, RPG elements. – [info from Wikipedia]

Also to note that in the Wii version the 8-bit sprites are in their original colors from the NES, but the Gamecube version had them in “modern” colors. Thanks to Cubivore10 for the contribution!
