Silent Hill (Climax) [PS3 – Cancelled Prototype]

Climax USA, a Santa Monica developers studio,  was working on a demo for a Silent Hill pitch for PS3. However, Konami handed over the development of a next-gen version to Double Helix Studios. As we can see in the video, for this Silent Hill prototype Climax used the same protagonist from their Silent Hill PSP game (Travis). Keep in mind that this does not mean that Travis would have been in the  final storyline, as this was just a tech demo to try to pitch for a full project and probably the story was not decided yet.

While Climax USA was closed during development of Silent Hill: Origins for PSP, the UK branch is rumored to be in charge of a remake of Silent Hill 1 for PSP and Wii.

Silent Hill: Homecoming [Beta – Xbox 360 / PS3]

Silent Hill: Homecoming is the sixth installment in the Silent Hill survival horror video game series, developed by Double Helix Games (AKA Foundation 9 studio + The Collective + Shiny Entertainment). From the pre-released screenshots, we can already see some beta differences between the “final” version and an old “beta” version, like different hair color for the protagonist and a “better” graphic. If you played the final game and notice some more beta differences in the early screens and videos, please let us know! Thanks to Brad for the contribution

Silent Hill [Beta – Playstation]

Silent Hill is a survival horror developed and published by Konami in 1999 for original the Playstation. The game was changed a bit from the beta to the final version, for example the “Grey Child” monster went through four design changes before it was finally approved by censors. Originally a faceless, humanoid monster which resembled a nude child, it was deemed too graphic for audiences (particularly in a game which forces the player to kill them). In the PAL release of the game, the Grey Children do not appear at all, instead being replaced by Claw Fingers. [Info from wikipedia]

Some more beta differences can be noticed in the Japanese Trial demo too. Also, a series of beta / unfinished rooms can be “accessed” using a cheat to pass through walls in the final game.
