Konami’s Moto-X [XBOX / PS2 – Cancelled]

Konami’s Moto-X was going to be a postapocalyptic motorcycle combat game, that was in development by Konami in 2002, for the original XBOX and the Playstation 2. The game had six different riders with different strengths / bikes, hand-to-hand combat, weapon-based combat and various multiplayer modes. The game was later cancelled as many other car-combat games, probably because the fad about this genre was already  over.

Project Overkill [PSX – Alpha / Beta]

Project Overkill is a shoot ’em up game developed and published by Konami in 1996 for the original Playstation. The gameplay takes on a 3d-esque isometric view, in which the player chooses one of four mercenaries to lead through the levels. [Infos from Wikipedia]

My friend optiK sent me a link to this video (from Asuka120 youtube channel) and I thought it was neat:  it is in fact from a pre-alpha build and most of what we can see in this early footage was not in the final game.

Green Beret / Rush’n Attack [GBC – Cancelled]

Green Beret, retitled Rush’n Attack in North America, is an action / platform arcade game released by Konami in 1985. In february 2009, www.coplanet.it made an interview with Naps Team, in which they revealed that a Gameboy Color port of Green Beret was in development in late 2000.  Sadly the project was cancelled, probably because of the near release date of the new Gameboy Advance.

Silent Hill (Climax) [PS3 – Cancelled Prototype]

Climax USA, a Santa Monica developers studio,  was working on a demo for a Silent Hill pitch for PS3. However, Konami handed over the development of a next-gen version to Double Helix Studios. As we can see in the video, for this Silent Hill prototype Climax used the same protagonist from their Silent Hill PSP game (Travis). Keep in mind that this does not mean that Travis would have been in the  final storyline, as this was just a tech demo to try to pitch for a full project and probably the story was not decided yet.

While Climax USA was closed during development of Silent Hill: Origins for PSP, the UK branch is rumored to be in charge of a remake of Silent Hill 1 for PSP and Wii.

Castlevania 64: The Beta, What We Got VS What There Was

Castlevania 64 underwent a no doubt rushed development phase and because of it, a lot of content was cut from the final game. The most obvious missing feature is that the final version only contains two playable characters as opposed to beta version’s promised four.

Originally, we were promised Reinhardt Schneider, Carrie Fernandez , Cornell, and Coller. Reinhardt and Carrie made it into 64 and Cornell was lucky enough to pull into the “directors cut” version of the game, but poor old Coller never saw the light of day. He was, however, replaced by Henry. Castlevania 64 obviously had a lot more content than what we got, but fortunately, thanks to a bit of picture hunting and hacking magic, we can see a bit more of what the developers originally intended.
