Mario Land [Virtual Boy – Cancelled]

VB Mario Land is a cancelled game /  prototype of the Mario Virtual Boy game that actually became Mario Clash. Nintendo was originally developing this as a full mario platform game, as show at E3 1995. The original project was cut and Mario Clash became just a remake of the classic Super Mario Bros, with featured small 3-d elements to show what the Virtual Boy was graphically capable of. For example, some parts exchanged the original idea of warp pipes with 3-d doorways that players enter by pressing up on the D-pad.

StarFox [Virtual Boy – Cancelled]

Star fox VB (Virtual Boy) was a tech demo of the star fox game that was in developement for the virtual boy. The originally planned game itself, “Star Fox Virtual Boy” was cancelled obviously because the virtual boy died soon after the tech demo was revealed. It only ever was saw by the attendees of E3 1995 and at the Winter Consumer Electronics show of 1995 along with the other cancelled star fox game, Star Fox 2. It was revealed at E3 95′ when nintendo showcased their previously planned and small virtual boy library. To do this, nintendo gave all attendees 3-D glasses to watch the projected images more effectively. At this conference was where the only publicised image of Star Fox VB was taken, as seen below.

GoldenEye 007 [VB – Cancelled]

GoldenEye 007 was a cancelled game for the Virtual Boy meant to be released along with Rare’s GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64. However, unlike the Nintendo 64 game, which was a first-person shooter, the Virtual Boy version looked to be some sort of action racing game. A brochure with the only known surviving screenshot of the game contained the following description:

“GoldenEye If you thought rush-hour traffic was a nightmare, wait ’til you get behind the wheel of 007’s car. Avoid obstacles and blow the other cars away. Buckle up for safety because, in this game, you never know what’s gonna happen.”

Zero Racers [VB – Cancelled]

Zero Racers (G-Zero) is a cancelled game for the Virtual Boy that was in development alongside F-Zero X that was close to completion. A prototype exists, since the game was previewed by Nintendo Power and has been seen at E3 1996. Gameplay differs in one important point from its predecessor and all F-Zero games released afterwards. In Zero Racers another dimension is being made use of. It is possible to speed through the three physical dimensions of space in the turning tunnels. – [source: Wikipedia]
