Let’s Go Jungle! [Arcade – Beta]

Let’s Go Jungle is an arcade light gun shooter published by Sega in Japan in 2006 for the Lindbergh hardware system. In this game players have to shoot down various monsters ranging from a towering praying mantis, mutant frogs and blood-sucking leeches, while they attack these tourists en route through river rapids, cavern ruins, bluffs and more.

Kieranmay was able to notice many beta differences in an early promo trailer:

1. when it tells you to steer the icon intructions are presented differently.

2. the part where you shoot those dragon flys has a stone cliff on the left hand side of the screen in the final version.

3. the scene where the couple realise there heading towards a cliff “what?! theres a cliff”scream and hold on to each other is not present, it goes straight to the action button scene.

4. the water in the swamp scene the couple are walking through is orange/murcky brown colour but in the final version it’s clear.

5. the scene where your on the river shooting those bugs on water are a dark colour but in the final version they’re lime green.

6. the direction icons are red and white but in the final they are either just blue or red depending on which player gets instructions.

7. the frogs that jump out of the water were jumping out much faster in the beta and were a light green but in the final they jump out thats easier for the player to shoot and are green and yellow.

8. the scene where you’re sliding down in the cave you don’t hear gun bullets ricocheting off the sides in the cave like in the final version.

9. other difference in the cave going down the slideis in the final version you have to shoot at the stone tights or you will get hurt but in the beta you don’t shoot them and you don’t get hurt, you just go past them on the way down.

10. the level sumary is different at the end of each level you complete as shown in the video.

Nuclear Strike [PSX/PC – Beta]

Nuclear Strike is a multi-directional shooter developed by Electronic Arts and released in 1997 for the PlayStation and PC. DCodes7 has noticed that there are some data files named “E3*” in the game’s disk, that are probably releated to a beta demo that could have been used in a past E3 to show Nuclear Strike to the press. Luckyly this beta demo can be freely played by typing the code “LIGHTNING” in.

The beta level is unfinished, the mission and its terrain is based off the second level of Nuclear Strike, but with lots of incomplete edits. More than half of  the area is empty and has no live action FMV’s of its own. When completing all objectives you will hear a message saying “Thank you for flying strike air, we know that you have a choice of many games to play and we appreciate your time to play us.

Also note that the “LIGHTNING” code for the beta level never appears in Nuclear Strikes campaign and the only way to know of its existence is to look up the code on the net. You can see this unfinished level in the videos below.

Future Strike (Future Cop LAPD) [PSX – Beta]

Thanks to DCodes7, we found out some interesting info about the development of Future Cop LAPD, a Playstation shooter that started as a new chapter in the “Strike” series. From 1991 – 1997 The strike series has been about Open world mid-air helicopter combat, developed by EA (Electronic Arts).

Nuclear Strike -released in 1997- was to be the last game to be released in the Strike series, but originally the developers who worked on the project were going to make another strike game called Future Strike. Apparently the game was going to be released in 1998; one year after Nuclear Strike’s Release.

When Nuclear Strike was released on the Playstation, a “Future Strike” trailer was hidden in the game. To view the trailer you have to play and beat all the game’s missions or use a cheat code. 

Rock [PC – Cancelled]

Rock is a space combat sim / mech sim / FPS hybrid that was in development in 1999 / 2000 by Singletrack for PC, but later cancelled because the studio was closed. The team planned to combine 3 genres into a single game, to let the player a lot of freedom in how to resolve the missions. It was an ambitious project, as we can read from a preview published in Computer Gaming World magazine (thanks to Roushimsx on the HG101 Forum):

Imagine a game where you can jump into a tarfighter, dogfight our way to a martian plain, hop out, toss a grenade in a Mech to kill the pilot so you can claim the assault robot for yourself, rampage across a warzone in your new weapons platform and finally jump out and enter a building, killing some fuards before you plat explosives to level it – all of this without any load screens to stall the action.

Cooperative online multiplayer was also planned. After Singletrack closed down, the Rock team ended up moving on to Incognito Entertainment (later purchased by Sony) and started to work on Warhawk for the PS3. You can feel that some of the concepts from Rock were implemented into Warhack.
