Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II [PC – Beta]

Our reader Drake Lake has made us notice that in the ATMachine website (a page that we have seen for the various beta Monkey Island / LucasArts adventures) there are even lots of informations about removed scenes and beta stuff from Jedi Knight, a first person shooter released in 1997 by LucasArts. In those screens we can see different cutscenes and different and removed weapons.  You can check the original page for more informations and images. It even seems that in the beta versione there were a ride-able enemy creature, ‘tusken’ raiders on a sort of hovering motorcycle vehicle, and a supposedly planned ‘racing’ level which took place after Kyle Katarn escaped his father’s home/sewer system, but they are not yet confirmed as removed content.

Thanks to Drake Lake for the link and props to ATMachine for his archive!

Day of the Tentacle [PC – Beta]

In the website of ATMachine we can read an interesting series of articles about the old Lucas Arts adventures and between them, we can even find a wonderfull page with informations and screens for the beta version of Day of the Tentacle! In those images we can see different animations and unused items. Also, as we can read on Wikipedia, the game was originally intended to resemble Maniac Mansion more closely, with the player allowed to choose from among six characters who would have included a male poet named Chester, a female hippie named Moonglow described as “a New Age girl with sandals”, and Razor from the original game. This idea was dropped in preproduction to simplify the project. The art created for the character of Chester was eventually adapted for the characters of the sculptor twins in the final game.

Thanks to Celine for the contribution!

HALO MMO (Titan) [X360 PC – Cancelled]

Our nice friends Robert Seddon and Batzarro have linked us to an intersting news that was spotted on Game Set Watch and Gamasutra, that talks about the find of some screenshots from “Titan Project”, an HALO inspired Massive Multiplayer Online game that was in development at Ensemble Studios, but was cancelled in 2007.

Ensemble Studios has recently closed (for financial problems?) after they had finished to work on Halo Wars and a supposed former employer of the team has started to share screens and some infos about the cancelled games that he worked on. On his Flickr Account we can see a wonderfull collection of images from Titan, and on his blog we can read that: “In 2005 Ensemble Studios completed Age of Empires III. Following that, several game prototypes (a major one was ‘Wrench’, more at a later point) were developed. One of them was a Halo inspired MMO codenamed Titan; cancelled after around two years in June 2007.”

Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge [PS2/PC – Cancelled]

X-COM is a series of computer games, started by Mythos Games and MicroProse in 1993. The first three titles were tactical games while the fourth was an action-based space combat/strategy game. The first installment, UFO: Enemy Unknown in Europe (also known as X-COM: UFO Defense in North America) was written by a team led by Julian Gollop. MicroProse quickly had an internal team create the sequel X-COM: Terror from the Deep. Subsequently, the Gollop brothers went straight to work on X-COM: Apocalypse, which would end up being the third in the series when released in 1997. Soon after Apocalypse, MicroProse was bought by Hasbro Interactive. All titles were developed for the PC, with a few ports to the Sony PlayStation and Amiga.

The Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge was a cancelled game by the authors of the original game (Mythos Games), claimed to having been “essentially a remake of the first X-Com with 3D graphics”. [Info from Wikipedia]
