RAGE 2 [Cancelled – PS3, XBOX 360, PC]

RAGE 2 [Cancelled – PS3, XBOX 360, PC]

Rage is a FPS developed by ID Software and published in October 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. A sequel was planned soon after they ended working on the first game, but development on Rage 2 was slowed down because ID was busy  working on their original, unreleased version of Doom 4.  After a while it seems that Zenimax Media, the owner of id Software, definitely cancelled all projects related to RAGE 2 in order to make the team to fully work on Doom 4.

As we can read on Rage Wiki, John Carmack stated that he still plans to do a sequel to RAGE after Doom 4 ships:

“After Rage certifies, the heavily-lifting code team will be migrating over to do new systems (for the Doom team). Building up the new team has been challenging to bring that many new people in and bring them up to speed” […] “We’re going to migrate more of the RAGE 2 team people, and then we’re going to roll onto RAGE 2.”

On August 4th, 2013 at Quakecon 2013, RAGE co-founder Tim Willits has mentioned that RAGE 2 is “Not dead”.

“I’m proud of what we did, I’m proud of the universe that we built. The franchise is not dead. We’re not doing anything immediately with it, but when I designed the universe, I designed it in such a way that it would be easy to step back into. I’m still proud that we did something that was different – it wasn’t like the games that we’ve done in the past.”

Willits also said that Rage’s development fueled innovations in ID Tech 5 that continue to pay off as the engine is adapted for use on next-gen consoles and in other Bethesda products.

As ID Software are now dedicated to create games for the new consoles (PS4, Xbox One, PCs), probably if / when RAGE 2 will ever be released it would be much different from its PS3 / Xbox 360 version. It’s fun to notice that there is an hidden Rage 2 Easter Egg in the original RAGE. During one of the missions in Dead City Centrall, a poster can be seen with “50% less on Rage 2, Doom 5!” on it.

I did like rage as I was like a mad max post apocalypse game but with a disappointing ending as well never fucking telling you what the he’ll is going on . But if there ever going to be a second rage game and if the story is interesting then I may actually buy the game.

The most bullshit ending of rage, if a second one came out I don’t think I’ll buy it……….. I mean, it felt as I was fighting for the power station section… Where’s the general? Where’s the bigger guys? I zipped through the game without realizing it, I was expecting a lot better ending, again don’t think I’ll be buying the second one if it comes out, unless there’s a bigger better ending

I was REALLY disappointed into the ending of Rage. They had a really great thing going, and they end it. They couldvery gone sooooooo much further with it. I just really want a close release date of Rage 2, IF there’s a Rage 2.

Im with with you Funa lets keep at em. Sawyer yes I further agree with you on that. Every time I replay it you get that empty feeling as the satellite beams down the codes to the Arks knowing its game over after all that hard work. There was enough material there to at least get stuck in organize the resistance and start on the AUTHORITY. What happened to Redstone?? i so wanted to give him a good thrashing.
Of course there would still be bandits about to mop up. I felt sad at the end when i made my way to Capital Prime in the Monarch shooting up the Authority Predators knowing i was going to have to dump it and make my way inside.
By the way did anyone try to wind up the enforcers by barging into them in the town….Back off!!! :0)

Please please lets have Rage 2. The Arks have risen and we are ready for war with the AUTHORITY. I love this game. its like having a virtual other life in the wastelands. The graphics are great. The characters look so real and there is non of the cartoony look of Borderlands in it. I dont think Fallout has a patch on Rage. The makers really killed it with the maps and fine detail. I just love hunting for stuff to sell to buy ammo. It makes you work for survival instead of picking up weapons. also i drive like a boss and can u turn on bandits and blow em away. I am 72 now please dont leave it too long. This game will sell. As for Doom
I dont like it it, Too far fetched and creepy for my taste but hey thats just me. Come on guys why kill off a winner. you can do it I have faith. Come on guys you can do it you have the knowledge skills and the power.

Nice! For sure the released game will be much different from the prototype they were working on many years ago, it would be interesting to see more from this cancelled version :O
