Anmitsu Hime for the Master System was a tie-in of an old anime of the same name. When the game was released in america, SEGA decided to change the title to Alex Kidd High Tech World. The storyline was completely rewritten and it became autocelebratory (Alex Kidd wants to try the new Sega Arcade in town), the characters redesigned (oddly enough, they weren’t westernized), but the basic, puzzle-heavy gameplay was left roughly the same. There were, however, some little changes between the two versions: quizzes, for example, had different questions/answers and the servants game was somewhat harder in Anmitsu Hime (the maidens changed their location for each try).

“the slow, puzzle-heavy gameplay was left exactly the same”
That is not exactly true, some riddles were changed in the westernized version: the quizz has different questions/answers and the servants’ game is somewhat harder in the japanese game (the maidens change their location for each try).

thanks daeke, i will add your informations to the introduction. With that sentence, however, i meant that they left the basic gameplay intact, not that the two games were identical. I will change the sentence to make it clearer.
