The Conduit [Wii – Tech Demo / Beta]

theconduictwiilogo.jpg

On April 17th 2008, High Voltage studios revealed footage for a new and mysterious game called ‘The Conduit’. The footage was a tech demo which displayed some of the visual effects that they had managed to achieve on the wii.

Almost exactly one month later, on May 16th 2008, High Voltage released more in-game footage of a beta version for their new, highly-anticipated first person shooter, ‘The Conduit’. The beta pushes the potential of the wii hardware visually, showing off some fancy effects and detailed textures.

In a later video, the developers show an interesting comparison between the first build of the game and the almost-final version. Props to High Voltage Software for showing this!

The final version of The Conduit have a hidden file called CDGame.txt in which can be changed some options to play with the debug mode. If you change the debug options to “ON” you can play the E3 demo with debug features. Also, by activating the conduit’s debug menu you can access a secret test level. The Test level – thanks to hackers – can now be played in multiplayer!

…you can also access an unused/beta level called the sanctum.

Thanks to tgarciao and DCodes7 for the contributions!

Amen: The Awakening [PC – Cancelled]

Amen: The Awakening was a planned FPS / RPG with some stealth elements by Cavedog Entertainment. It was to be the first FPS by Cavedog and probably the gameplay would have been somehow similar to the original Deus Ex, but the project was cancelled in 2000. Amen would have told the story of a dark and grim future where the political balance and societies have crumbled and terrorists control a portion of the world. [Info from Wikipedia]

Creature Shock [Atari Jaguar – Cancelled?]

Creature Shock is one of the games noted on the (back)cover box of the Jaguar CD attachment. The game was developed by Argonaut Games and released on 3DO and PC in 1994 and ported to the Philips CD-i, Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1996.

As noted by Ross Sillifant:

I’ve ‘spoken to’ Alexander Holland-Ex-Argonaught-YES they had a Jag CD dev.System, but as Jez San told EDGE in an interview, Argonaught NEVER did ANY Jaguar games as system was too big a commercial risk.

I interviewed Darryl Still Atari UK PR at the time.Atari UK WANTED CREATURE SHOCK, but could’nt PIN Jez down, and COULD NOT AFFORD to code game themselves-So Atari were NEVER working on it.

I also spoke to Mike Fulton, Atari UK, he did all the Jag.dev.tools. He converted some generic FMV code from the game to a video format Jag CD could read, to see how it handled the data transfer rate, but that was all. No game coding by Atari, ever.

Darryl Still (Ex-Atari UK told me Atari WANTED the game, but could’nt pin Jez down) and Mike Fullton, Ex-Atari told: “I seem to remember we wanted to get Creature Shock going for Jaguar, but I don’t recall that it ever got anywhere, with the possible exception of maybe having converted some video footage to play on Jaguar.   And it’s possible we did that ourselves from assets they sent us, using our generic video player code.”

Maximum Surge [3DO/Saturn – Unreleased?]

Maximum Surge is a cancelled game by Digital Pictures. Planned for release in 1996 for the 3DO, MAC, PC and Sega Saturn. It featured full-motion video in the same way that many of Digital Pictures’ releases of the time did. The game featured Walter Koenig, Yasmine Bleeth, and Michael Champion. The game was directed by William Mesa, and written by J. Garrett Glover & Charlie Ogden. The game stars you as an unnamed soldier, as you join forces with Jo (Yasmine Bleeth) against Drexel (Walter Koenig), who is trying to replace humanity with evil cyborg beings which transfer information by means of umbilical data cords. It is up to you to destroy his bases and ultimately face him in the final battle. Many internet sources disagree on the existence of this game. Flash Film Works, the people responsible for the special effects used in the game, claim that it was unreleased; however, the ESRB lists it as having been released on different game consoles, and even gives it a rating.
