La compagnia Europea AGB Games è conosciuto nell’ambiente delle console per i kit di sviluppo ideati fino ad oggi. I programmatori di questa software house infatti lavorarono al progetto di un motore grafico per GBA, conosciuto come C2 Engine WFR (Wall/Floor/ceiling Render). Fare girare su GBA un prototipo di Quake sembrava essere una mossa vincente.

L’engine WFR permetteva la riproduzione a 30-60 fps di ambienti chiusi o aperti con gestione intelligente delle collisioni e movimento di 256 oggetti su schermo, alta precisione nel rendering delle superfici (anche trasparenti) e nelle prospettive, texture animate, illuminazioni statiche e dinamiche in tempo reale.

La versione di Quake in fase di sviluppo è stata potenziata nel tempo, tutto il primo livello fu ottimizzato a 15-60 fps, ma il team era convinto di poter migliorare ancora le prestazioni. Purtroppo non avremo mai i risultati, visto che il gioco non ha mai visto la luce.

      Hopefully they find that version as well. Great contribution for videogame preservation regardless.
