Full Metal Alchemist [PSP – Tech Demo]

In 2006 Torus Games worked on a small PSP tech demo for a game based on the Full Metal Alchemist manga / anime, probably to pitch a full project. FMA is an ongoing Japanese series, set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques. In 2006 Funimation licensed the franchise to create a new series of Fullmetal Alchemist related video games to be published by Destineer Publishing in the United States. [Info from Wikipedia]

It’s possible that Torus’ tech demo was shown to Destineer, but for some reasons it never evolved into a real game.  A FMA game for the PlayStation Portable titled “Fullmetal Alchemist: Senka wo Takuseshi Mono” was later developed by Namco Bandai and released in Japan on October 2009.

Resident Evil Portable [PSP – Cancelled?]

Resident Evil Portable was announced by Capcom at E3 2009 for Sony’s PSP and was going to be slated for release sometime in 2010.

“Were pleased to announce that resident evil will be coming to PSP and a whole new game designed specifically for the PSP platform.”

After E3 2009 no new information was released; however at E3 2010 Capcom announced Resident Evil Revelations for Nintendo’s 3DS. During E3 2010, Resident Evil portable wasn’t mentioned or shown during the event.

After E3 2010, theories were made that Resident evil portable was probably cancelled and my have  evolved into Resident Evil Revelations. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, however I’d like to point out that resident evil Portable hasn’t been officially cancelled, but Capcom seems to be more concentrated on promoting and developing resident evil Revelations.

There are no screenshots of Resident Evil Portable and no official information as to what the game was going to be about.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 [PSP – Beta / Unused]

A number of things were taken out of the port of the second Battlefront game to the PSP. However, game modder Broadus managed to uncover this material, which was not present in the final game, but left in the game’s coding. Seven levels were not available in the final game: Coruscant, Geonosis, Utapau, Jabba’s Palace, Felucia, Kamino and the Death Star. The last three of these are not playable, whilst Jabba’s Palace loads but remains unplayable as well.

Geonosis: available in later games such as Renegade Squadron, this vast level includes usable vehicles and gun turrets.

Utapau: again, a large and complex level, with vehicles for both sides.

Coruscant: the main Jedi temple, which is very reminiscent of the level in Force Unleashed. Playable Jedi characters were supposed to be available.

Jabba’s Palace: includes the Rancor pit.


Death Star: unusuable, according to Boardus, but the above loading screens seem to indicate the tractor beam control area.

Fate / Extra [PSP – Beta]

As we can read on Wikipedia, Fate/Extra is a Japanese dungeon RPG developed by Type-Moon and Image Epoch, published by Marvelous Entertainment for the PSP in July 2010. The game takes place in a parallel universe to the visual novel Fate/stay night. The game’s battle system is comparable to rock-paper-scissors — “Attack” overpowers “Break”, Break overpowers “Guard”, and Guard overpowers Attack. During battle, both the player and the opponent line up six such moves at the beginning of each turn.

Na0mi [PSP – Cancelled]

Na0mi is a cancelled hero-based RTS that was in development by Mad Monkey Studios for the PSP in 2004. The player would have played as a female cyber-hacker named Na0mi, in a war over control of information. Na0mi and the other heroes of the game were able to evolve their powers while progressing and absord new skills from the giant boss enemies. Multiplayer via the PSP’s wireless LAN system was planned too. The project was canned for unknown reasons and only few artworks remain to preserve its existence.
