Ratchet and Clank was the first game in a series that would become a cash cow for Insomniac Games. The main goal of the game, is to blow up anything that moves, while exploring large levels for hidden items. The series is also known for it’s comical approach, with weapons such as the Morph -o- Ray, which turns enemies into chickens. There were some changes made to the final game however, one of which, involves the farm friendly foul.
In this video, can be seen what appears to be a mashup of different betas. To start with, at 0:22, it’s rather fast, but pause it and you’ll see the beta bolt meter, but in the top left part of the screen. In all Ratchet games, it’s in the top RIGHT. It can be seen there in another part of the video, but also in it’s proper place as well. At 0:49 can be seen a strange weapon icon, a no chickens sign. The HUD is still beta here, and the no chicken sign is too.
Also to be seen are various weapon ammo icons that in the final, are used only in the quick select and weapon menu. The final version replaces them with an image of what the ammo looks like that comes out of the ammo crates. Not to mention, the beta suck canon ammo counter. In the final, it’s simply a meter on the right side of the screen. Also seen here, is a beta version of the Waloper. in the beta designs, it’s red. In the final version, is just silver.
The Insomniac Museum
Some of the beta and unused things actualy were released to the public in two of the game’s sequals, Ratchet & Clank Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank Up your Arsenal. They are now publicly available for view, in both games’ Insomniac Museum. The beta features for Ratchet and Clank 1 from the museums, can be seen in the below videos.
From the museum in Ratchet & Clank Going Commando
And the only thing in the museum from Ratchet & Clank Up your Arsenal. In the second half of the video, a beta enemy from Ratchet and Clank 1 is shown.

It’s my first encounter on this game and I love it! I’d like to try it first before actually purchasing, do you know somewhere I can rent?

the rental stores in my area are starting to sell off thier stock of PS2 games, so since it’s such an older game, finding it as a rental may be a little tough. blockbuster would be the only place i could tell you, unless you’re signed up with gamefly. just try hitting all the rental stores in your area. of course, you could probably find it cheaper to buy used from gamestop than to actualy rent it.

The “no chicken” sign is the Pyrociter.
Probably because it burns chickens.
