Athena is a cancelled Class-based Multi-player War that was in development by the Athena Team, a HL2 mod team. The project started on November 2007 and the gameplay ranged from Vehicular Combat to NPC Combat to Intense Warfare. All development of Athena went to a complete halt on May 21th, 2009 when the source code was lost due to a hard drive crash. Seeing as almost all the features that were planned for Athena were done, the Athena Team tried to pick up development by just working on the content of Athena. That failed miserably due to the Athena Team’s lack of anticipation.
There were going to be various Game Modes: Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Coop (Players Versus Npcs), Capture The Point / Push / Domination, Capture The Flag and The Hunted (One player hunted by the others). With the “KnockOut System” if you took too much damage at a certain amount of health you ad to ragdoll and try to recover from doing so.
In the Class System there were 5 main classes, all with the essentials and with their own purposes: Marine, Demolitions, Surgeon, Marksman and Recon.
The team behind the Athena project was composed by: TannerBondy (Programmer / Concept Art / Oddjobs / Creator), Dr. Derek Stiles (Mapping / SFX / Concept Art / Co-Creator), Saber-Six (Team Manager / AI Coordinator), Mascott (Public Relations), Sfisher7 (Modeler / Skinner), MagNet (Modeler /Rig / Skinner), ISick (Skinner), Marcus Aseth (Modeller), Sneaky Ninja (Weapon Modeler), LoneWolf (Animator), Boroko (Rigger), Stene (Mapper) and Broodrooster (Mapper).
