I vividly remember seeing one of the screenshots in either a Toys R' Us ad, or an old Sears Wish Book ad.
The picture depicted a red Richter lookalike jumping over a broken staircase against a bright white full moon background, much like the opening stage of Symphony of the Night. However, instead of walking northwest up the staircase like in Symphony/Drac X, this particular screenshot showed the "Red Richter" jumping the stairs northeast. I really wish I still had the screenshot, as the younger Castlevania fan in me snipped it out for a Castlevania folder I had as a 13 year old.
At either rate, the screenshot suggested that the red Richter antagonist was a playable character at some point; (perhaps early in the game, much like Symphony would end up doing.)

"Konami showed new installments to some major franchises, with Parodius on display, as well as Dracula X for the SNES. There was also Castlevania: The Bloodletting images to look at, a new Castlevania, which was being planned for the 32X. However, the team working on this game was eventually swallowed up by the Symphony of the Night team, and Bloodletting was no more."
