Shadow the Hedgehog is a title in the Sonic The Hedgehog series based on the character Shadow The Hedgehog. It was released on November 15, 2005 in the US, in Europe on November 18, 2005, and in Japan on December 15, 2005.

The Beta has several aesthetic changes from the released version, including a slightly grittier look, Alien enemies that bled, and other things of that nature. The changes were only minor and not very significant.

Although they are only minor being not an incredible amount of changes were made to it.

A video of the beta arose in the form of a trailer SEGA unveiled at the Walk of Game ceremony when Sonic was inaugurated into the Walk of Game. The trailer gave gamers their first major taste of the look and feel of Shadow of Hedgehog, though some notable changes would still be made for the final version.

The dialogue is also edited in the release version of the game. One of Shadow’s lines is changed from “What the hell was that all about?” to “just what was that all about?” Also, “hell” is changed to “heck”. An example is “What the hell is HQ doing?” to “What the heck is HQ doing?” The word “piss” was originally to be used as well in two of Sonic’s lines but was changed to “tick”. An example: “Hate to piss off GUN,” had been changed to “Hate to tick off GUN”. Also, every second time Shadow was hit by an enemy or fell into a bottomless pit he said the word “damn.” Despite the changes, some profanity remains in the release version, which includes an infamous sentence spoken by Shadow, “Where’s that damn fourth Chaos Emerald?”

A scene in which Maria is shot was also shortened.

In the original multiplayer mode, when a player died their character would kneel over and make intense choking noises. Since this was deemed inappropriate, Sega took it out of the game wholesale come release. However, under the right circumstances, the sound byte can still be heard if one meets certain conditions in multiplayer. [Info from Wikipedia]

Thank GOD for not taking that in. That would make Shadow look even MORE pathetic.
And imagine:

Sweet. Actual blood and someone saying something other than damn. It’s so sad that they’d cut this stuff out. Just take the T rating for God’s sake.

I guess they wanted the E rating because of gamers. Through their entire generation they had games available to anyone, but now why make a game suddenly rated T? You could argue that those gamers from the Genesis generation are teens now, but then what about the newcomers? The Genesis, when it came out, was played by kids, too.

These things are only censored in the greatest hits or players choice, or platinum hits versions.

I was a big Sonic fan back in the day, and I remember seeing all of this when the game came out. A big event that happened after this trailer came out and Shadow the Hedgehog was released was that the ESRB introduced the E10+ rating. Most Sonic fans theorized that SEGA originally planned for the game to get a T rating due to its graphic content. After the rating came out though, SEGA decided to shoot for an E10+ which they ultimately succeeded in getting.

I can’t really confirm that all the changes were removed after release, but I do know that my launch day copy is rated E10+. I also am pretty sure the aliens bled green blood.

i find it funny that x play gave this game (shadow the hedgehog the game) 1 out of 5 while they gave super princess peach 4 out of 5. unlike nintendo power and game trailers that gave that god awful game a much higher rating cough idiots cough.
